# Privacy Policy — RISE

**Last updated: September 14, 2026**

## 1. Overview

RISE is an Android application published by IslanderSoft (a French micro-entreprise). It helps users fight the effects of a sedentary lifestyle through periodic movement reminders, strength exercises, and breathing sessions.

---

## 2. Data Collected

RISE itself collects **no personally identifiable information** and does not transmit any of the data described in section 2 to external servers. All of that information is stored exclusively on your device.

The app does, however, embed third-party SDKs (advertising and in-app purchases) that process some data of their own — see section 4.

### Data stored locally

- **Preferences** — Language, sounds, vibrations, fitness level, reminder interval, quiet hours, strength-training and weekly summary reminder settings, walking-detection toggle, daily breathing goal
- **Daily progress** — Number of "Movement Break" sessions and breathing duration per day, kept on a rolling window of about 20 days
- **Streak tracking** — Number of consecutive weeks with at least one strength-training session (current and best streak), date of the last session
- **Walking detection** — Step count and timestamp of the last detection
- **Custom exercises and sessions** — Duration, sets, rest time, and custom order of exercises; exercises and sessions created by the user (name, emoji, description); history of completed sessions
- **App state** — Medical disclaimer acceptance, onboarding steps and help tooltips already seen, guided tour completed, Pro status (active or not)
- **Notification history** — Reminders and automatic credits for the last 7 days, missed reminder count (reset daily)

This data is stored in Android DataStore and the Room database, both local to your device.

---

## 3. Android Permissions Used

- **`POST_NOTIFICATIONS`** — Send periodic movement reminders
- **`VIBRATE`** — Vibration on notifications (configurable)
- **`WAKE_LOCK`** — Keep the timer active during a workout or breathing session
- **`RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED`** — Re-arm scheduled reminders after the device restarts
- **`REQUEST_IGNORE_BATTERY_OPTIMIZATIONS`** — Allow the app to wake up every ~45 minutes to send a reminder, even in the background
- **`FOREGROUND_SERVICE` / `FOREGROUND_SERVICE_SPECIAL_USE`** — Keep workout and breathing timers active in the foreground
- **`ACTIVITY_RECOGNITION`** — Detect sustained walking via the device's built-in step counter
- **`INTERNET`** — Required by the third-party advertising (Google AdMob) and in-app purchase (Google Play Billing) SDKs described in section 4; the app itself makes no network calls of its own

> The `ACTIVITY_RECOGNITION` permission only accesses the device's hardware step counter (`TYPE_STEP_COUNTER`) to detect brisk walking (≥ 100 steps/min) and automatically credit a Movement Break period. No GPS location data is used.

## 4. Advertising and In-App Purchases

RISE does not create user accounts and does not itself share any of the data listed in section 2. The app does, however, use two third-party Google SDKs, each with its own data handling:

### Advertising (Google AdMob)

- Users on the free tier see a discreet native ad on four screens. The **Google AdMob** SDK may, for that purpose, collect advertising identifiers and technical data (device model, IP address, etc.) to serve and measure these ads.
- Before any ad request, a consent screen compliant with the **Google User Messaging Platform (UMP)** framework, meeting GDPR requirements for users in France/the European Union, is shown. The content of that message (purposes, advertising partners) is configured through Google's AdMob console.
- The consent choice can be changed at any time from the app's settings.
- Users who purchased the "Remove ads" option see no ads and trigger no ad request or data collection by this SDK.

### In-App Purchases (Google Play Billing)

- The one-time "Remove ads" purchase and the optional donations ("Small Coffee" / "Large Coffee") are processed through **Google Play Billing**. These transactions are handled directly by Google; RISE never stores or sees any payment data (card number, billing identity, etc.).
- Only the outcome of the transaction (purchased or not) is kept locally on the device as a simple flag (see section 2).

For more information on how these SDKs process data, see Google's privacy policies: [policies.google.com/privacy](https://policies.google.com/privacy) and [support.google.com/admob/answer/6128543](https://support.google.com/admob/answer/6128543).

These Google SDKs may involve a transfer of data to the United States, governed by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses and/or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

---

## 5. Health Data

RISE does not access Health Connect or any other health platform. Walking detection relies solely on the device's hardware step counter (`TYPE_STEP_COUNTER`), accessed directly through the Android API without any third-party health platform.

---

## 6. Data Retention and Deletion

All data is stored locally on your device. It is permanently deleted when you uninstall the application.

You can also clear the data at any time via:
**Android Settings → Apps → RISE → Storage → Clear data**

Notification history is automatically limited to the last 7 days, and daily progress data (Movement Break, breathing) to a rolling window of about 20 days; older entries are deleted automatically. Other data (preferences, custom exercises and sessions, Pro status, streak tracking) is kept until the app is uninstalled or the data is cleared manually.

---

## 7. Children

RISE is not intended for children. The app's Google Play listing is configured to restrict installation to users aged 18 and over. In line with the applicable rules depending on the user's country (13 in the United States under COPPA, 15 in France/the European Union under the GDPR and French data protection law), we do not knowingly collect data from minors below that age. The application is intended for an adult audience.

---

## 8. Your Rights

Since RISE does not collect or retain any data on servers (see sections 2 and 6), most of your rights are exercised directly on the device: you can view, change, or delete your data at any time through the app's settings or by uninstalling it.

For data processed by the third-party SDKs (Google AdMob, Google Play Billing — see section 4), you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction of processing, and portability, which you can exercise directly with Google via [your Google account](https://myaccount.google.com) and [Google's ad settings](https://adssettings.google.com).

For any question about these rights regarding RISE, contact us at **contact@islandersoft.com**. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with France's data protection authority (CNIL) or the data protection authority of your country of residence.

## 9. Changes to This Policy

If this policy is updated, the date at the top of this document will be revised. For significant changes, a notification may be displayed within the app.
